After matric you can choose FSc pre-medical, FSc pre-engineering, ICS (computer science), I.Com (commerce), FA (arts) or a technical diploma, or go the O-level and A-level route. The best choice is the one that fits your interests, strengths and marks, not just what your family or friends are doing. This guide explains each path and how to decide. Admission rules, entry tests, merit and fees change every year, so always confirm them on the university's own website before you decide.
Ready to talk to someone?
Biology, chemistry and physics. It leads to MBBS and BDS (through the medical entry test) and to degrees such as Pharm-D, DPT, nursing, medical lab technology, biosciences and psychology. Choose it if you enjoy biology and are ready for a long, demanding study path. If you want to be a doctor, remember that medical seats are limited, so have a second option you would be happy with.
Mathematics, physics and chemistry. It leads to engineering degrees (through university entry tests) and to computer science, software engineering, architecture and many other degrees. It suits students who like maths and problem solving.
Mathematics, physics and computer science. It leads to BS computer science, software engineering, data science and AI, and also to business degrees. It suits students who enjoy computers and logic.
I.Com (commerce) leads to BBA, B.Com, accounting and finance, and professional qualifications such as ACCA and CA. FA (arts) leads to law, psychology, mass communication, English, education and social sciences. Both are real paths to good careers when chosen for the right reasons.
A Diploma of Associate Engineer (DAE) and other technical diplomas lead to technical jobs and, in many cases, further study. O-levels and A-levels are another route, with subject choices that lead to similar degrees.
Ask yourself: What subjects do I enjoy even when they are hard? What am I good at, according to results and teachers? What kind of daily work could I imagine doing? Then check the options against your marks and your family's situation. Talk to people working in the fields you are considering. Try our short career self-check. If family expectations are making it hard, a counselor can help you talk it through: career counseling for students.

“I am truly grateful to Ms. Tasmiya Asghar and the team at Meeting Matters. I reached out during one of the most difficult periods of my life while dealing with grief and trying to be the best parent I could be for my children. Ms. Tasmiya's kindness, empathy, and guidance helped me navigate emotions that often felt overwhelming. She helped me understand my feelings, regain perspective, and think through practical ways of supporting my children and myself. I always felt respected, heard, and comfortable during our sessions. I would wholeheartedly recommend Ms. Tasmiya Asghar and Meeting Matters to anyone going through a challenging time and looking for professional support in a compassionate environment.”
