Stress symptoms include tension headaches, tight muscles, tiredness, trouble sleeping, irritability, difficulty concentrating, feeling overwhelmed and changes in appetite. Short-term stress is normal. When stress lasts weeks and you feel you cannot cope, it can lead to anxiety, depression and burnout, and it is worth getting support.
Ready to talk to someone?
Headaches, neck and back tension, tiredness, stomach problems, a racing heart, changes in appetite, frequent colds, and sleep problems.
Feeling overwhelmed, irritable or on edge, worried, low in mood, unable to switch off, forgetful or unable to concentrate, and losing enjoyment in things.
Snapping at people, withdrawing, putting things off, eating or sleeping differently, relying more on caffeine, cigarettes or sleep aids, and working constantly without feeling productive.
Stress is a response to pressure and usually eases when the pressure does. Anxiety continues even when the pressure is gone. Burnout is deep exhaustion, cynicism and reduced effectiveness after long work stress. They overlap, and a psychologist can help you tell which is happening.
Regular sleep, movement, breaks, saying no to some demands, talking to someone you trust, and learning practical skills in therapy. See our stress and individual therapy and student exam stress pages.

“I am truly grateful to Ms. Tasmiya Asghar and the team at Meeting Matters. I reached out during one of the most difficult periods of my life while dealing with grief and trying to be the best parent I could be for my children. Ms. Tasmiya's kindness, empathy, and guidance helped me navigate emotions that often felt overwhelming. She helped me understand my feelings, regain perspective, and think through practical ways of supporting my children and myself. I always felt respected, heard, and comfortable during our sessions. I would wholeheartedly recommend Ms. Tasmiya Asghar and Meeting Matters to anyone going through a challenging time and looking for professional support in a compassionate environment.”
