Loneliness is the painful gap between the connection you want and what you have. You can feel lonely in a crowd, in a marriage or in a large family. Signs include feeling unseen or misunderstood, withdrawing, low mood, tiredness and poor sleep. Loneliness affects mental and physical health, and it can be eased with small steps and, when needed, therapy.
Ready to talk to someone?
Feeling empty or disconnected, having no one to talk to about real things, avoiding contact, feeling invisible at home, spending long hours on your phone, feeling worse on social media, low mood and disturbed sleep.
Loneliness is about the quality of connection, not the number of people. Common causes are moving cities or abroad, marriage that has become distant, loss, study or work pressure, hiding your real feelings, social anxiety and depression.
Reach out to one person with a small, specific message. Join something regular, such as a class, a prayer group, a walk or a volunteer activity. Limit scrolling that leaves you feeling worse. Be honest with someone about how you feel. If anxiety keeps you away, work on it gradually.
If loneliness lasts for weeks, comes with low mood or anxiety, or you do not know how to connect, therapy can help you understand what is getting in the way. See loneliness counseling, social anxiety and depression symptoms.

βI am truly grateful to Ms. Tasmiya Asghar and the team at Meeting Matters. I reached out during one of the most difficult periods of my life while dealing with grief and trying to be the best parent I could be for my children. Ms. Tasmiya's kindness, empathy, and guidance helped me navigate emotions that often felt overwhelming. She helped me understand my feelings, regain perspective, and think through practical ways of supporting my children and myself. I always felt respected, heard, and comfortable during our sessions. I would wholeheartedly recommend Ms. Tasmiya Asghar and Meeting Matters to anyone going through a challenging time and looking for professional support in a compassionate environment.β
