Anger is a normal emotion. It becomes a problem when it is frequent, intense, out of proportion to what happened, or leads you to shout, break things, hurt people or regret what you did. Signs include a short temper, a fast build-up from calm to rage, physical tension, and damaged relationships or work. Anger problems are treatable, and people can learn to respond rather than explode.
Ready to talk to someone?
Getting angry over small things, shouting or insulting, slamming doors or breaking things, physical aggression, long-held resentment, feeling out of control, regretting your behaviour afterwards, and people around you being afraid or walking on eggshells. Physically: clenched jaw, hot face, racing heart and tight chest.
Anger often sits on top of other feelings: hurt, fear, shame, stress or exhaustion. Common drivers are chronic stress, anxiety, depression (especially in men, where it can look like irritability), trauma, poor sleep, relationship conflict, and learned habits from the family you grew up in.
Step away before you speak. Breathe in for about 4 seconds and out for about 6. Drink water or splash your face. Walk for a few minutes. Wait before replying to messages. Come back to the conversation when your body has settled, and say what you need without blame.
Anger can damage marriages, parenting and friendships. If your anger leads you to hurt or frighten someone, or someone's anger is hurting you, take it seriously and get help. See anger management counseling and marriage counseling.
CBT based anger management helps you spot triggers and early warning signs, change angry thinking, calm your body and communicate your needs. If anger comes with low mood, trauma or anxiety, those are treated too. We are psychologists and do not prescribe medication. If a medical opinion would help, we will say so and work alongside your doctor or psychiatrist.

βI am truly grateful to Ms. Tasmiya Asghar and the team at Meeting Matters. I reached out during one of the most difficult periods of my life while dealing with grief and trying to be the best parent I could be for my children. Ms. Tasmiya's kindness, empathy, and guidance helped me navigate emotions that often felt overwhelming. She helped me understand my feelings, regain perspective, and think through practical ways of supporting my children and myself. I always felt respected, heard, and comfortable during our sessions. I would wholeheartedly recommend Ms. Tasmiya Asghar and Meeting Matters to anyone going through a challenging time and looking for professional support in a compassionate environment.β
