Marriage counseling is worth trying if you and your partner still want to understand each other and fix recurring fights, distance or broken trust. It works best when both people take part and start before resentment sets in. It does not guarantee a marriage will last, but it helps couples communicate better and decide what to do with clarity. If there is violence, threats or fear in the relationship, safety comes first and joint counseling is not the right starting point.
Ready to talk to someone?
Daily arguments that go in circles, feeling unheard, emotional distance, trust problems after betrayal, in-law or family conflict, differences about money, parenting or intimacy, and big changes such as a new baby or a move abroad. A counselor helps you see the pattern you are stuck in and learn new ways to talk. Methods such as the Gottman Method and EFT have good evidence.
If one partner has already decided to leave, counseling may still help you separate with less damage, but it will not rebuild the marriage. If there is physical, sexual or controlling abuse, individual support and a safety plan come before couples sessions. See our page on toxic relationship counseling.
The first session is about understanding both of your views and what you want. The counselor then helps you identify the cycle of conflict, express needs without blame, listen without defending, and rebuild trust and closeness. Many couples notice change within a few sessions, and deeper work takes longer.
You can start alone. Individual counseling helps you manage the situation, communicate differently and decide what you want. A gentle way to ask is, "I do not want us to keep hurting each other. I would like us to speak to someone who can help us understand each other." Many reluctant partners join later.
Counseling is private. Online sessions let couples attend from home, even from different cities or countries, in Urdu, Punjabi or English. See marriage and relationship counseling, and pages for Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi.

“I am truly grateful to Ms. Tasmiya Asghar and the team at Meeting Matters. I reached out during one of the most difficult periods of my life while dealing with grief and trying to be the best parent I could be for my children. Ms. Tasmiya's kindness, empathy, and guidance helped me navigate emotions that often felt overwhelming. She helped me understand my feelings, regain perspective, and think through practical ways of supporting my children and myself. I always felt respected, heard, and comfortable during our sessions. I would wholeheartedly recommend Ms. Tasmiya Asghar and Meeting Matters to anyone going through a challenging time and looking for professional support in a compassionate environment.”
