Therapy for Attachment Issues

If you cling when you feel afraid of losing someone, pull away when people get close, or swing between the two, you may be living out an attachment pattern. These patterns form early, but they are not fixed. The Meeting Matters offers attachment-informed therapy for individuals and couples in Islamabad and online across Pakistan.

What Attachment Patterns Are

Attachment describes how we learned to seek closeness and safety from the people we depend on. An anxious pattern often brings fear of abandonment, need for reassurance and jealousy. An avoidant pattern brings discomfort with closeness, self-reliance and withdrawal when things get intense. A fearful pattern mixes both. Most people lean one way, and these are patterns, not diagnoses.

How It Shows Up

Common signs are overanalysing messages and silences, difficulty trusting a partner, repeated relationships that end the same way, shutting down in conflict, fear of being left, or feeling smothered. It also appears in friendships, family and with in-laws, and can be shaped by childhood loss, inconsistent caregiving or past betrayal.

How Therapy Helps

Individual therapy helps you understand where your pattern comes from, notice it in the moment and respond differently. Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples works directly on the bond, helping partners recognise the cycle they fall into and reach each other more safely. Psychodynamic and CBT-based work can support both.

For Individuals and Couples

You can come alone to work on your own pattern, or with your partner when the pattern is playing out between you. Our therapists will help you decide which fits.

Attachment Concerns in Children

If you are worried about a child's separation anxiety, clinginess or difficulty bonding after a loss or major change, our child psychology and play-based services can help, with parent guidance.
