Play Therapy for Children

Young children rarely say "I am anxious" or "I am sad." They show it through play, tantrums, clinginess or silence. Play therapy gives a child a safe, structured way to express what they cannot yet say, with a trained psychologist helping them make sense of it. The Meeting Matters offers play-based therapy for children in Islamabad and online across Pakistan, with parent guidance alongside.

What Play Therapy Is

Play is a child's natural language. In sessions your child uses toys, drawing, storytelling and role play while the therapist observes, joins in and gently guides. Feelings and worries that are hard to speak about tend to appear in the play, and the therapist helps the child work through them at their own pace.

What It Helps With

Play-based work is used for anxiety and fears, anger outbursts and defiance, separation difficulties, shyness and social withdrawal, grief and loss, the effects of family changes such as divorce or a new sibling, and distressing experiences. It suits younger children best, usually around ages 3 to 10, and is adapted for older children who prefer drawing, games or talk.

What a Session Looks Like

Your child plays in a calm space with a therapist who follows their lead. Parents are not usually in the room, but you are involved: regular guidance sessions explain what the therapist is seeing and give you simple ways to respond at home so progress carries over.

Online Play Therapy

Play therapy also works online for many children. The therapist uses games, drawing and story activities on screen, and a parent helps set up a quiet space. We will tell you honestly if a child would be better served in person in Islamabad.

How Parents Are Involved

Parents are part of the plan. Before starting, the therapist takes your history and concerns. During treatment you get regular updates and practical guidance. Children change fastest when the adults around them respond in the same consistent way.
