ADHD in Pakistan: Symptoms, Test and Treatment for Children and Adults

ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, activity levels and impulse control. It is often missed, especially in girls and in adults who learned to cope. This page explains the signs, what an ADHD assessment actually involves, and what helps. The Meeting Matters offers psychological assessment and support online across Pakistan and in person in Islamabad.

ADHD Symptoms in Children

Trouble sustaining attention on tasks that are not exciting, losing belongings, forgetting instructions, constant movement, interrupting or blurting out, difficulty waiting a turn, and strong frustration. Girls and quieter children are often missed because they daydream rather than climb furniture. Many children show some of these traits, so what matters is how often, how intensely and how much they affect school, home and friendships. See ADHD in children.

ADHD Symptoms in Adults

Adults often describe chronic lateness, forgetting appointments and bills, starting many tasks without finishing, trouble prioritising, restlessness, impulsive decisions, and feeling overwhelmed by ordinary admin. Many have carried this since childhood and built stress, anxiety or low self-esteem on top of it. Symptoms can look different in women, who may feel inattentive and exhausted rather than hyperactive.

ADHD Test: What an Assessment Involves

There is no single reliable online quiz or blood test for ADHD. Online checklists can suggest whether an assessment is worth pursuing, but they cannot diagnose. A proper assessment is a structured clinical interview about development and daily functioning across settings, often with input from a parent, partner or teacher, and checks for other explanations such as anxiety, depression, sleep problems, learning difficulties or stress, which can look like ADHD.

What Helps

For children, parent training in consistent routines, clear instructions and positive reinforcement is one of the most effective supports, together with school strategies. For adults, skills-based therapy builds organisation, time management and emotional regulation, and treating anxiety or low mood that sits alongside ADHD matters too. We are psychologists and do not prescribe medication. If a medical opinion would help, we will say so and work alongside your doctor or psychiatrist.
