Gaming and mobile addiction is a pattern of compulsive screen use — online games, social media, short videos or betting apps — that continues despite real harm to sleep, studies, work, money or relationships. The Meeting Matters provides confidential treatment for behavioural addictions in Islamabad and online across Pakistan, working with teenagers, young adults and families using CBT-based approaches rather than punishment or blame.
Ready to talk to someone?
Losing track of hours, irritability or anxiety when the phone or game is taken away, lying about screen time, falling grades or missed work, disrupted sleep, withdrawing from family and friends, or spending money on in-game purchases or betting that you can't afford. Gaming disorder is formally recognised by the World Health Organization, so this is a genuine clinical concern, not just a bad habit.
Compulsive screen use is rarely the whole story. It is often a way of escaping anxiety, loneliness, low mood, boredom, family conflict or difficulty with attention, which is why simply removing the device tends to fail. Treatment looks at what the behaviour is doing for the person, then builds healthier ways of meeting that need.
We begin with an assessment of the pattern and its impact, then use CBT to work on urges, triggers and unhelpful thoughts, build a realistic structure for screen use, and plan for setbacks. Where anxiety, depression or attention difficulties are involved, they are treated alongside the addiction.
For teenagers, parent guidance sessions run alongside the young person's own therapy, so rules at home become consistent and collaborative rather than a daily battle. We work with the teen's own motivation wherever possible.
We also work with adults struggling with gambling and online betting, where secrecy, debt and shame often make it hard to seek help. Sessions are fully confidential and non-judgemental.
