Fees are one of the first things people ask about before booking a psychologist in Islamabad, and one of the hardest to find a straight answer on. Prices vary a lot between clinics, and the cheapest or the most expensive option is not automatically the best one. This guide explains what you can expect to pay, what moves the price up or down, and how to plan for it.
What a Session Typically Costs
At The Meeting Matters, sessions range from PKR 5,000 to PKR 15,000. Most individual sessions with our clinical psychologists sit at the lower end of that range. The top of the range applies to senior practitioners with many years of clinical leadership. Across Islamabad you will see a wider spread, from clinics that charge a few thousand rupees to private practitioners who charge considerably more.
What Changes the Price
- The therapist's experience. More years of clinical practice and specialist training usually mean a higher fee.
- The type of session. Individual therapy, couples counselling and child or family work are priced differently because they run differently. Couples sessions, for example, involve two people and are structured accordingly.
- Session length. Individual sessions are usually about an hour. A shorter focused format, such as single session therapy, can suit a specific problem you want to work through quickly.
- Where the clinic is and what it offers. Premium locations and add-on services push fees up. A clinic's rent is not the same as the quality of its therapy.
Online or In Person: Is the Fee Different?
At our clinic, no. The fee is the same whether you come to the clinic in F-11/1 or attend by secure video. If you live elsewhere in Islamabad, in Rawalpindi or in another city, online sessions save you the travel time and fuel without changing what you pay. For more on whether online therapy works as well, see Is online therapy as effective as in person?
Student Discount
Students receive 20% off with every therapist on our team. If you are at a university or college, mention it when you book. Student life brings its own pressure, from exams to career worries, and cost should not be the reason you wait.
Getting the Most From Your Budget
- Be clear about your goal. A first session is a conversation about what you want to change. A clear goal helps your psychologist plan how many sessions you realistically need.
- Attend regularly. Spacing sessions too far apart often means starting over each time. Steady sessions, even if fewer in total, usually work better than occasional ones.
- Do the small tasks between sessions. Techniques you practise at home, such as those in our guide to dealing with anxiety without medication, make each session count for more.
- Ask about options up front. If cost is a concern, say so when you book. We would rather help you find a workable plan than have you drop out.
Questions to Ask Any Clinic About Fees
- What is the fee per session, and how long is a session?
- Is the fee the same online and in person?
- Are there extra charges for assessments, reports or follow-up messages?
- What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?
- Is there a student discount?
Free and Low-Cost Options
If the fee is out of reach right now, there are other places to start. Our guide to free and low-cost counselling in Pakistan lists what is available. For a broader view of costs across the country, read how much therapy costs in Pakistan.
Is a Higher Fee Better Care?
Not on its own. What matters is whether your psychologist is properly qualified, has experience with your concern, and whether you feel comfortable working with them. Ask about their training and approach, and judge the fee alongside those answers. For help with that, see our guide to choosing a psychologist in Islamabad.
