ADHD Treatment and Support

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects both children and adults โ€” not just in the classroom or at work, but in relationships, daily routines and how manageable everyday life feels. At The Meeting Matters, we assess and support ADHD across the lifespan, from a first-time assessment to ongoing behavioural strategies and coordinated care where medication is part of the picture.

How ADHD Actually Shows Up

ADHD isn't just "trouble focusing" โ€” it can show up as difficulty starting or finishing tasks, losing track of time, forgetfulness, restlessness, impulsive decisions, or feeling mentally scattered even when trying hard to concentrate. In children, it often looks like difficulty sitting still, following instructions, or managing frustration. In adults, it's frequently more internal โ€” racing thoughts, chronic disorganisation, missed deadlines, or a lifelong sense of underachieving relative to actual ability.

Assessment & Diagnosis

A proper ADHD assessment involves a structured clinical interview covering developmental history, current symptoms and their impact across different areas of life โ€” not a quick checklist. For children, this often includes input from parents and, where relevant, teachers. For adults, we look at how symptoms have shown up since childhood, even if ADHD was never formally identified earlier in life. The goal is an accurate picture, not just a label.

ADHD in Adults vs. Children

ADHD looks different depending on age. Children are more often referred for hyperactivity and behaviour that disrupts school or home life, while many adults with ADHD were never diagnosed young and instead grew up being called disorganised, lazy or inconsistent โ€” when the underlying issue was neurological, not a character flaw. Treatment is adapted accordingly: parent training and school-focused strategies for children, and executive-functioning and workplace-focused strategies for adults.

Our Approach

We use behavioural interventions focused on building structure, improving organisational systems, and developing practical coping strategies suited to your actual daily routine โ€” not generic advice. This is often combined with CBT-based coaching for adults managing procrastination, time-blindness or emotional regulation, and parent-focused behavioural strategies for children. Where medication may help alongside therapy, we coordinate with a psychiatrist rather than treating medication and behavioural support as separate, disconnected tracks.
