Getting a child to a clinic in Karachi can mean hours in traffic, time out of school and a tired, unhappy child at the end of it. Online child therapy lets your child talk to a psychologist from home, in a familiar space, and lets you be involved without arranging the whole day around it.
Signs Your Child May Need Help
Children rarely say "I am anxious." They show it. Look for changes that last more than a few weeks:
- Stomach aches, headaches or sleep problems with no medical cause.
- Refusing to go to school, or crying before school.
- Sudden anger, tantrums or aggression that is new for their age.
- Withdrawing from friends or activities they used to enjoy.
- Falling grades, trouble concentrating or constant worry about performance.
- Regression, such as bedwetting or clinging, after a period of being settled.
Our guides on signs your child may need therapy and children struggling in school go into these in more detail.
School Stress in Karachi
Exam seasons, heavy homework, tuition after school and comparison with classmates put a lot of pressure on children, and teenagers in particular. Some children cope by working harder, others shut down. Therapy gives a child a space to say what they feel without worrying about disappointing a parent. For older students, see exam stress: tips for students and parents.
How Online Child Therapy Works
The first step is usually a conversation with you, the parent, to understand the concern, your child's history and what you have already noticed. Then your child meets the psychologist. For younger children, sessions are shorter and use conversation, drawing and simple activities on screen. Teenagers often prefer to talk. Between sessions, the psychologist gives you practical guidance so that what your child learns carries over at home.
What Parents Do
You are part of the process. You will be asked to share what you see at home, practise simple strategies and keep to a regular time. Some sessions are with the child alone, some with parents, and you stay in contact with the psychologist about progress. It helps to be open with your child about the sessions and not to suggest that something is wrong with them. A simple way to put it is: "You are going to talk to someone who helps children with worries."
Setting It Up at Home
Choose a quiet corner with a good connection, and ask other family members not to interrupt. Younger children may need a parent nearby for the first few minutes. Keep a drink and paper and crayons to hand for younger children. Plan around load-shedding by charging devices in advance.
ADHD, Learning Difficulties and Assessments
If you suspect ADHD or a learning difficulty, the psychologist can begin with an assessment and then recommend next steps, which may include school support or a referral to a paediatrician. Read about child psychology for Karachi families and our child therapy guide for parents.

Frequently Asked Questions
What age can a child start therapy?
Children from around the early primary years can take part, using play, drawing and talk suited to their age. Teenagers can have sessions much like adults.
Will my child's school be told?
Not without your agreement. If the school needs information, we will agree what to share with you first.
Does online work for young children?
For many children it does, especially with a parent nearby and short sessions. If it is not working for your child, your psychologist will say so.
Can I speak to the psychologist myself?
Yes. Parent input is an important part of child therapy.
