Not every Employee Assistance Program is the same, and the differences are not always visible in a brochure. Before you commit, these ten questions will tell you whether a provider can actually support your people.
1. Who Will Employees Speak To?
Ask for the qualifications of the people delivering counselling. You want qualified psychologists, not generic wellness coaches. Ask whether sessions can be held in English, Urdu and Punjabi, because people talk most honestly in the language they think in.
2. How Is Confidentiality Protected?
Ask exactly what the employer will and will not see. The right answer is anonymised, aggregate reporting only, with the standard ethical limits for risk of harm and legal duty.
3. How Quickly Are Employees Seen?
Ask for response times in writing, for routine requests and for urgent ones. A program that takes weeks to respond will not be used.
4. Can It Be Delivered In Person and Online?
You may have staff in several cities, on shift patterns or abroad. Ask where the provider can deliver on site and how online sessions work.
5. What Support Do Managers Get?
Many difficult situations reach HR through a manager. A good provider offers a confidential consultation for managers and a short briefing on how to refer someone well.
6. What Happens After a Serious Event?
Ask how the provider responds to a workplace accident, a death in the team or a major restructure, and what that support costs.
7. What Reporting Will You Receive?
Ask to see a sample report. It should show utilisation and broad themes, helping you act on patterns, and it should never identify individuals.
8. Who Leads the Provider?
Look at the leadership behind the program. Clinical credibility matters, and so does operational discipline: the ability to run a service reliably, measure it and fix it. The leadership team behind Meeting Matters Global combines both, with Mr. Naushad Anjum, a UK and UAE registered psychologist, as CEO and Mr. Faisal Mumtaz Rao, a former Group COO and aviation safety professional, as COO.
9. Can Training Be Added?
An EAP works best alongside prevention. Ask whether the provider runs workshops on stress, burnout, communication and psychological safety, and whether they are customised to your sector. Our corporate mental health workshops are designed this way.
10. How Is It Priced?
Pricing should be explained plainly: headcount, session allowance, on-site days, workshops and reporting. Be cautious of a price that cannot be broken down.
