Psychologists & Counselling

If you think that you might benefit from seeing a psychologist, psychotherapist or counsellor, you've come to the right place!

Like lots of people, you might be a little unclear on the differences between psychologists, psychotherapists, and psychiatrists. Let's set the record straight: psychologists and psychotherapists both a  provide “talking therapies,” although their training routes are somewhat different. Psychiatrists are trained in medicine, and are qualified to prescribe medication. To find out more about our private psychiatric service click here.

You may have encountered services offering counselling. While there is a place for counselling, the qualifications required are more basic than those needed for psychology or psychotherapy. We suggest that, in looking for a therapist, you always ask if they can provide evidence-based psychotherapies, which are types of therapy that research has proven to be effective.

Meeting Matters offers a full range of counseling and psychological therapy treatments; and all our psychologists are highly trained, have at least five years’ experience post-qualification. They are qualified to offer a wide range of therapeutic approaches, as per your needs. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy are two of the best-known, most effective therapies available. Moreover, research has also found Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Focused Therapy, and more to be extremely effective in treating a wide range of issues.

Everyone is different, and we strenuously avoid the one-size-fits-all approach. Whatever the things that are troubling you, we can work with you to find the best technique to help.

So, How Will You Know If You Need to See a Psychologist?

If something in your life is not going right, you are struggling with difficult emotions and/or behaviors, or you’ve been through a very difficult time and can’t seem to get back on track, psychological help could be just what you are looking for. Or perhaps you live with a chronic health condition and find that the daily grind is sometimes more than you can bear. We all pass through challenging and difficult periods in our lives, and sometimes even the most loving, supportive friends and family can’t give us all we need to get to the other side. When that happens, it’s time to get some professional help.

If this sounds like you, know that reaching out for help is one of the strongest, most positive actions you can take. You don’t need to get a referral from a GP or other medical professionals – all you have to do is ring up and make an appointment. One of our compassionate, highly qualified professional psychologists can arrange to meet you and talk over the issues that are troubling you so as to figure out the best route to take.
